Thanks so much for visiting my blog and leaving all these wonderful comments on Carrie’s “I’ll Stand By You”.
Every time I watch this video, it brings tears to my eyes. I’m so touched by the joy and laughter they brought to those kids. Most of all, it once again shows just how lucky I am – I have the freedom to chose where to live, what to do and the kind of person I want to be. Yes, we each have our own hardships and/or issues that we are struggling with, but they are really nothing compares to what those people have to face just to survive. They lack the basic physiological needs that we so often take for granted.
While you are enjoying the song and this wonderful MV, remember its intention – You can help.
Let’s try our best to help those in need. Also, be grateful for what we have in our lives.

… Carrie Underwood “I’ll Stand By You” MV
—————————————————————-
… With slide shows of Carrie’s pictures
Lyrics
Oh, why you look so sad?
The tears are in your eyes. Come on and come to me now
Don’t be ashamed to cry. Let me see you through
Cause I’ve seen the dark side too
When the night falls on you, you don’t know what to do
Nothing you confess could make me love you less
I’ll stand by you, I’ll stand by you
I won’t let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you
So, if you’re mad, get mad
Don’t hold it all inside. Come on and talk to me now
And hey, what you got to hide? I get angry too
But I’m a lot like you
When you’re standing at the crossroads, and don’t know which path to choose
Let me come along, cause even if you’re wrong
I’ll stand by you, I’ll stand by you
I won’t let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you
Take me into your darkest hour, and I’ll never desert you
I’ll stand by you
And when, when the night falls on you baby, you’re feeling all alone
You won’t be on your own
I’ll stand by you, I’ll stand by you
I won’t let nobody hurt you. I’ll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour and I’ll never desert you
I’ll stand by you
Oh, I’ll stand by you
I’ll stand by you
The Thorn Birds (Part One)
LW’s Words:
I first watched this movie when I was 12 and have watched it countless times since then… Every time I watch it, I get different lessons/messages out of it; but one thing remains the same – it brings me to tears every single time.
It’s a story about love – unattainable love, forbidden love, but also the kind of love that last forever ~
It’s a story about being human – our emotions, struggles, conflicts, desires, strengths & weaknesses ~
And, it’s a story about the life – faith, the choices we make, and the journey, through time, to find peace ~
Here is one message that binds everything together – “For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain”…
The mini-series was adapted from The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough.

Dialogues from the movie:
Archbishop: When your rose fell to the ground, I understood at last, the sadness you always wear like a holy mantle.
Ralph de Bricassart: Oh Vittorio, I have tried so hard to get her out of my heart.
Archbishop: You think I don’t know that?
Ralph de Bricassart: Then why?
Archbishop: Ralph, our God has given us freewill. And with that freewill comes the burden of choice. It is time, far past time that you took up that burden, because until you do, you cannot go on.

Quote from the book:
Long ago, there was a bird to sang just once in its life.
From the moment it left its nest, it searched for a thorn tree.
And it never rested until it found one.
Then it began to sing more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth.
And singing, it impaled its breast on the longest, sharpest thorn.
But as it was dying, it rose above its own agony
to out-sing the lark and the nightingale.
The thornbird pays its life for that one song
and the whole world stills to listen
and God, in His heaven ~ smiles.
As its best was bought only at the cost of great pain.
Driven to the thorn, with no knowledge of the dying to come.
But when we press the thorn to our breast,
We know……
We understand……
And still…… we do it.
American Beauty (1999)
LW’s Words:
What a beautiful, inspiring and optimistic message it carries for our discovery… There are so much beauty in this world, so much to be grateful for.
Don’t wait till the last minute of our lives to see the beauty and feel the joy; don’t wait till it’s too late to appreciate and feel gratitude for the simple moments of our little lives.
Movie: American Beauty (the Ending)
“I had always heard your entire life flashes in front of your eyes the second before you die.
First of all, that one second isn’t a second at all. It stretches on forever, like an ocean of time.
For me, it was lying on my back at Boy Scout Camp, watching falling stars.
And yellow leaves, from the maple trees that lined our street.
Or my grandmother’s hands, and the way her skin seemed like paper.
And the first time I saw my cousin Tony’s brand new Firebird.
And Janie… and Janie…
And Carolyn…
I guess I could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me, but it’s hard to stay mad, when there’s so much beauty in the world.
Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once, and it’s too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst.
And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain.
And I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.
You have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m sure. But don’t worry… you will someday.”
Do you know “The Secret”?
LW’s Words:
“What you think and how you feel shape your future.”, a friend told me. “…When you’ve modified your thought processes into positive ones, your entire life will change. I very firmly believe that we get what we think and say. There are spiritual powers in the universe that see to that. When we think negative thoughts, we get negative results in our lives. When we think and say positive things, we get positive results in our lives. It works every time.”
He also suggested that I watched “The Secret” dvd.
The message of “The Secret” is basically to understand the Law of Attraction – you attract what you think about – and use the power of intention to manifest the things you want in your life. So by thinking positive thoughts, seeing the beauty in the world, and feeling the love and joy in everyday life, we are more likely to bring all these things to our lives.
It’s about having a positive attitude and outlook on life… “Whatever it is you are feeling is a perfect reflection of what is in the process of becoming.”
———————————————————————————
“We are like magnets – like attract like. You become AND attract what you think.”
“Choose your thoughts carefully .. you are a masterpiece of your life.”
~ quotes from The Secret
“What We Think, We Become…”
~ Buddha
“you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny.”
“…our thinking creates our reality”
~ Louise Hay

Beautiful Anne Hathaway
Remember the naïve personal assistant, Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, who was told fat at size 6 in 2006 comedy-drama film The Devil Wears Prada? Are you disturbed by celebrities’ obsession and fascination with Size 00 & 0?
It’s probably safe to assume that most Hollywood actresses think Thinness = Beauty, and are trying very hard to be un-naturally thin… Well, not Anne Hathaway!
The 24 year-old actress, who plays the main character Andy in The Devil Wears Prada, is refused to succumb to such pressure to be thin. She recently told the British edition of Glamour magazine:
“Obsessing about weight is a big old waste of time…”
“It’s completely understandable as a teenager to fret about your body… It’s scary because you don’t know how it’s going to wind up. But I’m not a teenager any more; my body’s chosen its shape. I’d rather be strong than skinny for most roles.”
She added, “‘I’ve had directors say to me, ‘You’re the best actress for the role, but you’ve put on weight recently.’ If people can’t understand you’ve put on five pounds, I don’t want to deal with them.”
a Jerry McGuire Moment…
I have lots of those Jerry McGuire moments. Moments where I just stop, step outside of the here and now, and listen to the inner voice asking these questions:
– Have I found my place in the world? Do I like my place in the world?
– How did I get to where I am right now? Is this where I want to be?
– What exactly do I want and where exactly do I want to be?
– Am I happy? Could I be happier?
Yes, many questions from deep within, but seldom have I had any answers. In rare cases when I do have answers and think things should be made better, I procrastinate… I do that by asking myself even more questions…
Shouldn’t we be happy with what we got? And if I am happy, why would I still want to strive for something more?!?!
Can’t we just STOP wanting and STOP chasing – knowing most of us had it pretty good…??

Jerry Maguire: The Things We Think and Do Not Say
Obsessive Love
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive_love)
Obsessive love is a form of love where one person is emotionally obsessed with another.
The obsessive lover believe that their “one magic person” alone can make them feel happy and fulfilled.
Four conditions that help identify Obsessive Love: (Forward, S. & Buck, C.)
1. A painful and all-consuming preoccupation with a real or wished-for lover
2. An insatiable longing either to possess or be possessed by the target of their obsession
3. Rejection by or physical and/or emotional unavailability of their target, and
4. Being driven to behave in self-defeating ways by this rejection or unavailability.

My Question:
I’m still not sure where to draw the line between love and obsession? Where does love end and obsession start?

Found some interesting reading on Some Philosophizing About Love
(Source: http://www.benbest.com/philo/philove.html#obsessive)
Obsessive love is generally associated with unrequited love or unequal love.
Unrequited love is described as an individual experience rather than a relationship — a wish to love or be loved rather than love itself.
The obsessive lover lives in hope and suffers constant uncertainty about the feelings of the beloved. The entire life of the obsessive may be focused on speculations about the meaning of words & actions of the beloved.
